– maybe the weight of expectation meant this was destined to fail, even if as a standalone zombie movie in its own right, it’s interesting and certainly a worthwhile watch. It has a sort of pseudo-mystical aura throughout, while the family drama at its heart feels mundane, forcing excitement from a contrived series of random novelties and deus-ex machinas, and the politicking – though welcome – is too on the nose.
