The Secret Agent (O Agent Secreto)

– beautifully, rivetingly directed, in a style that’s vaguely reminiscent of PT Anderson, and with marvellous performances across the board, this is a slow burning, puzzling thriller that demands quite a lot of its audience, not least that they have some familiarity with Brazil’s military dictatorship, and is unwilling to provide easy answers – if any. Alas, this viewer was perhaps not sufficiently informed, and was left perplexed and slightly disappointed at the film’s conclusion. Very much enjoyed the soundtrack though.
