– Whether from studio interference, bad judgement, or both, the solid crime thriller that’s somewhere in this mix is spoiled by genre cliches and loose ends. That it remains engaging despite badly realised villains, barely motivated heroes, and a littany of characters who are either completely irrelevant or contrived to wave away plot holes, speaks to how desperately we want and need more serious films in this genre.
